ERASMUS MUNDUS ACTION 2 FOR ASIA JANUARY 2011
The specific objectives are the improvement of education and research capabilities of EU and Asian countries in subjects relevant to sustainable environmental and natural resource management (i.e. applied life sciences in the broadest sense of the term) to meet present and future societal challenges by contributing to education for sustainable development, to promote cooperation and solidarity among scientists and scholars in the EU and Asian partner countries; in the area of human resources to contribute to the enhancement of academic and professional staff expertise; to produce and transmit scientific and scholarly knowledge and information on curricula development, on the use of ECTS and DS etc. in the participating countries.
The geographical coverage of the partnership is very balanced. 8 EU partners (Austria, Czech Republic, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Poland and Sweden) represent a balanced mixture of "old" EU members and newer member states, covering Northern and Central as well as Eastern EU Universities. All these European universities offer dozens of study programmes taught entirely in English, which is extremely important for student and staff exchange. The Asian partners comprise 4 countries from Group A (Mongolia, Vietnam - North and South, Laos, Cambodia), as well as 4 countries from Group B (China, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand). This guarantees a wide geographic coverage of the network. Furthermore, the consortium has decided to accept on average two HEI from each of the Asian countries involved, in order to disseminate the mobility possibilities as widely as possible within the consortium. The wide range of associates from the same countries but also from additional eligible countries, guarantees that a sufficient number of potential participants from target groups 2 and 3 will be duly informed about the scholarships offered.
